Too late to apologise

The Supreme Court (SC) has the sole right to interpret the constitution. The institution can then give judgments that affect all citizens – including public office holders on charges such as the transgression of power or any other violation of laws in existence.

On May 28, 2017, Senator Nehal Hashmi lashed out at those investigating former PM Nawaz Sharif and his family after the SC ordered an investigation into the Sharif family’s business dealings abroad. He should have promptly offered an unqualified apology when the SC took suo motu notice, but he wasted time.
