The rise of unemployment has created a lot of problems for students. The 16 years of education in the engineering field is of no value in Pakistan as most of engineers are jobless. The government has not taken this matter seriously.Government-owned institutions hire foreign engineers for development projects. That nine shops were robbed in Saddar, Karachi highlights the rising number of crimes in the city. Ours is a country where there is no rule of law in place. For example, officers in different public sector organisations, who are entitled for the ‘pick and drop off’ facility misuse their official vehicles – by using the vehicle for personal trips – and cause a lot of fiscal loss to the national exchequer. Some of these officers even send their secretaries to pick their children from educational institutions.This practice of sending the secretaries – who are government employees – instead of personal drivers has a negative effect on office work. As per rules, official vehicles should be parked on the offices’ premises after the working hours, but in this country people have no regard to rule of law. If we want to see Pakistan on the path to progress, these practices should be discouraged.Hashim Abro ( Islamabad )

The recent wave of terrorism in the country calls for urgent measures by security agencies to put an end to terror attacks. The Mastung attack that took place last week resulted in the death of at least 149 people. The authorities concerned have to take even stricter action to ensure that all elements that are responsible for tampering with the country’s peace are handled with an iron fist.There shouldn’t be any leniency for the groups that are spreading violence in the country. Despite being Pakistan’s biggest city, Karachi has a poor level of infrastructure. Broken roads at almost all parts of the city have become a sign of incompetence of the previous government which did nothing to begin repair work in the city.Almost all roads have potholes which made it difficult for commuters to have a smooth ride. That many profiteers add water in loose milk is, unfortunately, quite common in Pakistan. Being a concerned mother, I am afraid to even go to these shops knowing what kind of products they have been selling to the people. It was said that packaged milk posed a serious health risk, but I think otherwise. Packaged milk brands have been upfront and transparent in revealing how their milk is sourced and processed. I see no reason to doubt them.I am of the opinion that we should use packaged milk to keep ourselves healthy and safe from the hazards that loose milk poses. In addition, I will also laud the Punjab Food Authority for banning the sale of loose milk. I felt a relief that somebody is taking an initiative for the safety of people.Sumaiya Shafi ( Karachi )
